Pepperdine encourages everyone to be environmentally conscious. The state of California established a regulation that mandates that all larger organizations, including Pepperdine University, must dispose of all used batteries and surplus computer/TV monitors as hazardous material. Failure on your part to participate could result in a sizable state fine.
Our environmental compliance plan includes separate collection and disposal practices for used dry-cell batteries (i.e. penlight, AA, AAA, C, D, etc.), wet-cell batteries, and for surplus CRTs (i.e. monitors from computers, TVs, scientific equipment, etc.). You may no longer dispose of used batteries or CRT monitors by depositing them in the regular waste receptacles.
Surplus CRTs (monitors from computers, TVs, scientific equipment, etc.):
Individuals wishing to dispose of their own CRTs can take them to the University Warehouse during normal business hours. The Warehouse will arrange for recycling or pickup and disposal. Additional details on the University’s surplus property policy can be located at this site. In all cases, the individual or requesting department will be responsible for the external vendor’s disposal charges.
Computer Systems Surplus and Disposal
Departments having entire computer systems to surplus or otherwise dispose of should contact the IT Help Desk at 310-506-HELP (4357). The Information Technology division will take care of clearing all information from the computer's disk drives and then determine if the computer system warrants being surplused or disposed of. If so, they will see that Warehouse Services gets the equipment. If there is any CRT disposal charge, the originating department will be responsible for its payment.
