
International Education Week is a joint initiative of the U.S. Department of State and the U.S. Department of Education to celebrate the benefits of international education and exchange worldwide. Pepperdine’s International Programs Office will host various activities and events the week of November 16th- 20th to inform the Pepperdine community on various international topics.

We want to see the best photo that YOU have taken anywhere outside of the United States! Submit your photo to the IP Office between Wednesday October 28th – Friday November 13th. Your photo will be displayed during International Education Week on campus. The Pepperdine community will have the opportunity to vote on their favorite photo Monday November 16 – Thursday November 19. Winners of the photo contest will be announced at the International Coffeehouse on Friday November 20th. Cash Prizes will be given for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place winners!
Photos must be 11”x14”, and they must be taken by you. You can print your photo through Pepperdine Printing Services. Alternatively, CVS in Malibu prints photos as well as many online photo companies (Kodak, Shutterfly, etc.).
The IP Office will have stationary and envelopes available throughout the week for you to write a letter to friends in an International Program. We will mail your letters on Friday November 20th at 12pm.

What makes Christianity so attractive to educated Chinese today? Some experts predict that China will have the world's largest population of Christians by the end of the 21st century. This convocation will focus on the dramatic growth of Christianity in China, especially in the past 30 years. Special attention will be given to answer the following questions: What is it about the essential message of Jesus that appeals to many young and educated Chinese? What is unique about the nature of Christianity in China that has the potential to revitalize Christianity worldwide?

Hear personal stories of custodial staff and landscapers at Pepperdine University that immigrated here from Latin America. They will share the importance of family, community, and the importance of crossing cultural boundaries to know and love your neighbor.

www.tenthousandvillages.org is a nonprofit organization that provides vital, fair income to Third World people by marketing their handicrafts and telling their stories in North America. Ten Thousand Villages works with artisans who would otherwise be unemployed or underemployed. This income helps pay for food, education, health care and housing.
We will sell handmade goods that include home décor items, personal accessories, ornaments, jewelry and other gift items. All proceeds go directly back to Ten Thousand Villages to support the artisans and their families.

- www.playjustlikeyou.com - non-profit organization that promotes international awareness among youth through sport, laying the foundation for the informed worldview necessary to be successful global citizens.
- www.krochetkids.org - A youthful movement fighting poverty by producing and selling distinctive, life changing products. This movement was started by a group of university students compelled to LOVE, to help, and to have fun doing it.
Students that will be studying abroad on a Pepperdine program are invited to have tea with international students. You will even receive a free IP mug!! Each IP program will be divided up amongst their groups and meet with students from the location that they will live in. You will learn about living in that country, about their cultural norms and values, and hear an international perspective of what it’s like to live in America!!

Participants in this convo will think about what it means to communicate with people who are from different cultures and will focus on what we have in common-our need for a Savior. Dr. Garner will share his experiences of crossing boundaries in Russia.
